Milestones
Last updated: 7 July 2026
Buying a first home is a long series of unfamiliar steps. The Milestones page lays out the whole journey as 10 steps, created automatically when you set up your tracker, so you always know what’s next.
The 10 steps
- Set savings goal & open dedicated account
- Check eligibility for FHBG / FHSS
- Research target suburb & property type
- Get mortgage pre-approval from lender
- Engage a conveyancer / solicitor
- Attend open homes & make offers
- Get building & pest inspection
- Exchange contracts & pay deposit
- Apply for grants & stamp duty concessions
- Settlement day!
The steps are a general first-home-buyer sequence for Australia. Your exact order can vary — for example, some buyers engage a conveyancer before making offers, others after.
Tracking your progress
Each milestone has a status: Not Started, In Progress, or Completed. On the paid plan you can update the status as you go and attach your own notes to each step — lender names, quotes, inspection dates, anything you’d otherwise lose in a message thread. On the free plan the checklist is visible but read-only (see Free vs paid).
Partner suggestions
A few steps show a suggestion for finding professional help — a mortgage broker at pre-approval, a conveyancer at the legal step, and an inspector at building & pest. These are optional pointers, not requirements, and never financial advice.
Shared with your partner
If you share your tracker, you and your partner see and update the same milestones — one list, no duplicated effort. See Partner sharing.
